SurveyDXF User Manual

1. Main Workflow

1. Open a DXF drawing.
2. Set the station.
3. Turn on Pick point.
4. Snap a point on the drawing.
5. Read N/E/Z, bearing, and horizontal distance.
6. Save the point if required.
7. Export or review the point list.

SurveyDXF uses drawing coordinates directly. The DXF must already be in the correct site/grid coordinate system.

2. Importing Points

Open Setup, then Import points, or open Point list and tap the import icon.

Supported import format:

Point,N,E,Z,Code

CSV and TXT files are accepted. Code is optional.

Imported points are saved into the active project. Bearing and horizontal distance are calculated from the active station at the time of import.

3. Solar Observation

Open Tools, then Solar observation.

Solar Observation is intended for field checks involving solar azimuth and instrument orientation. The tool uses the observation time and observer position to calculate the solar centre azimuth.

1. Allow location/GNSS if prompted, or confirm the observer latitude and longitude.
2. Set or confirm the observation time.
3. Enter the required instrument readings according to your field procedure.
4. Compute/check the solar azimuth.
5. Export or share the report if needed.

Use this tool as a survey check, not as a replacement for control verification. Confirm the result with independent control or another accepted site procedure before using it for final orientation.

Safety warning: Never observe the Sun through an instrument without an approved solar filter or safe observation method. Do not point an optical instrument at the Sun unless you are trained and equipped for safe solar observation. Follow company and site safety procedures.

4. Licensing and Trial

During trial or active Pro access, DXF stakeout, saving, export, and related tools are available according to the current license state. When the trial ends, the basic COGO calculator remains available, while Pro features require an active license.

5. SurveyDXF VLX Companion Files

SurveyDXF companion VLX files will be released on the developer site: bmgis.dev.

The app Settings section shows the SurveyDXF VLX companion unlock code for users with an active trial or Pro license.

Current VLX companion files:

• sdxf_pileDeviation.VLX
• sdxf_coord_label.VLX

All official SurveyDXF companion files use the sdxf prefix. Use only VLX files downloaded from the official developer site. Do not share your unlock code publicly.

6. Backup and Restore

Open Settings to access backup and restore. Backup saves project data, stations, points, and level runs. Use backup before changing phones, clearing app data, testing a new version, or doing major project cleanup.

7. Field Accuracy Checklist

• Confirm the DXF coordinate system.
• Confirm station coordinates and orientation independently.
• Check at least one known point.
• Verify units and imported point columns.
• Check layer visibility and snap type.
• Confirm bearing and distance with site procedure.

8. Troubleshooting

DXF does not open

Confirm the file is a DXF. Try a cleaned/simplified DXF and remove unsupported heavy CAD objects if possible.

Drawing opens but looks empty

Tap Zoom extents, check layer visibility, and confirm the DXF contains supported model-space geometry.

Cannot pick a point

Turn on Pick point, enable the required snap type, increase snap radius, and zoom closer to the target.

Bearing or HD looks wrong

Check that the correct station is active, confirm station N/E/Z, verify drawing coordinates and units, and compare against a known point.

Imported points are wrong

Confirm the format is Point,N,E,Z,Code, confirm N and E are not swapped, and confirm the active station before import if Brg/HD is needed.

Line Stake does not start

Long press directly on supported DXF linework, zoom closer to the line, check that the line layer is visible, or try a simpler line/polyline if the CAD object is unsupported.
